How to Clear the Cache Partition on a on Samsung Galaxy S5:

If your Samsung Galaxy S5 is not working properly and you’re thinking about master resetting it, then you might want to try and clear the cache first. By doing so, you can avoid the deletion of personal data stored on your Samsung Galaxy S5’s internal memory. Unlike when you apply a master reset, clearing the cache will not result in personal data loss.

1. Power off your Samsung Galaxy S5
2. Press and hold “Volume up”, “Home” and “Power” at the same time
3. After the Samsung Galaxy S5 phone vibrates, release the “Power” button but continue to hold “Volume Up” and “home”
4. Once the “Android System Recovery” screen appears, release all the hardware buttons
5. Using the “Volume Down” button, navigate to and highlight “wipe cache partition”
6. Press “Power” to select the option
7. Once the cache partition has been wiped, “Reboot System Now” should be highlighted
8. Press the “Power” key to reboot your device

Boot Samsung Galaxy S5 in Safe Mode

NOTE: If you’ve installed a malicious third party app that prevents you from uninstalling it, you can reboot your Samsung Galaxy S5 in safe mode in order to fix this issue. In safe mode, all 3rd party apps are disabled and can be easily uninstalled.

Rebooting your Samsung Galaxy S5 in Safe Mode:

1. Power off the Samsung Galaxy S5 handset
2. Press and hold the “Power” button
3. Once the “Samsung Galaxy S5” splash screen pops-up, release the “Power” key and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
4. Keep pressing the volume button until the device reboots completely
5. If you’ve successfully rebooted in safe mode, you should see a “Safe mode” notice in the lower-left corner of the screen
6. When in safe mode, release all the hardware buttons

Uninstalling Third Party Apps and Disabling Safe Mode on your Samsung Galaxy S5:

1. While viewing the home screen, tap the “Apps” icon
2. Tap “Settings”
3. Under “Applications”, tap “Application manager”
4. Swipe to the “Downloaded” screen
5. Select the app that you wish to remove from your Samsung Galaxy S5
6. Tap “Uninstall” and confirm by pressing “OK”
7. To exit safe mode on your Samsung Galaxy S5, press and hold the “Power” button and tap “Restart” on the touchscreen

Samsung Galaxy S5 master reset

WARNING! Applying a master reset on your Samsung Galaxy S5 device will return it to factory values, thus you will lose all personal data stored on the internal memory, including downloaded apps, content, photos, custom ringtones and contacts. Content stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be deleted.

NOTE: Before applying a master reset, you might want to back up your data.

Master Resetting Samsung Galaxy S5 via the Settings Menu:

1. While on the home screen, tap the “Apps” icon
2. Tap “Settings”
3. Under “User and Backup”, tap “Backup and reset”
4. If you wish, clear the check boxes next to “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
6. Assuming that you have screen lock enabled, enter your password or PIN and tap “Continue”
7. Tap “Delete all” to confirm

Master Resetting Samsung Galaxy S5 Using Hardware Keys:

NOTE: Use this method of resetting in case you are unable to factory reset your Samsung Galaxy S5 using the settings menu.

1. Power off your Samsung Galaxy S5
2. Press and hold the “Volume Up”, “Home” and “Power” buttons at the same time
3. After the Samsung Galaxy S5 phone vibrates once, release the “Power” button but keep pressing “Home” and “Volume Up”
4. Once the “Android System Recovery” screen appears, release all the hardware buttons
5. Press “Volume down” until you highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
6. Press the “Power” button to select the option
7. Navigate to “Yes — delete all user data” using the “Volume Down” button
8. Press “Power” to confirm the master reset
9. After the device has been reset, the “Reboot system now” option should be highlighted
10. Finally, press the “Power” button to reboot your Samsung Galaxy S5 device
